Mallorca Cathedral, known as La Seu, dominates the Palma skyline from the sea and is one of the most impressive Gothic temples in Europe. At its foot, the Calatrava neighbourhood and the narrow streets of the old town invite you to wander on foot, while the seafront promenade connects the city to Bellver Castle, a unique circular fortress with panoramic views over the whole bay.

Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Serra de Tramuntana runs along the entire north-west coast of the island, with winding roads, spectacular viewpoints, and villages such as Valldemossa, Deià, or Sóller, where time seems to have stood still. It's an area best enjoyed with your own vehicle, since the distances between villages and the lack of frequent public transport make a rental car almost essential to explore it at a relaxed pace.

Away from the more crowded beaches, the east and south coast of Mallorca hides turquoise-water coves such as Cala Mondragó, Cala Varques, or Es Trenc, many of them accessible only after a final stretch on foot from the nearest car park. With your own car you can plan your own cove-hopping route, arriving early to avoid the crowds and choosing each stop according to the wind or the swell of the day.
